Beginning of development

Research into the new disinfection process began at the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Research and Technology (INP Greifswald) as part of plasma medicine research. The molecule peroxynitrous acid (ONOOH) was identified as an active substsance and a process was developed with which the short-lived substance ONOOH can be used for disinfection.

Spin-off

Foundation of Nebula Biocides GmbH from the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Research and Technology e.V. by the founders Dr. Ansgar Schmidt-Bleker, Dr. Jörn Winter and Dr. Klaus-Dieter Weltmann.

Leibniz Start-up Prize

Nebula Biocides GmbH is the winner of the Leibniz Start-up Prize 2021 and receives prize money of EUR 25,000. The Leibniz Start-up Prize is awarded once a year by the Leibniz Association to start-ups that have distinguished themselves through special achievements in the development of innovative and viable business ideas and in the establishment of new companies.

Seed Financing Round

Raising 1.6 million euros as part of a seed financing round having on board the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), the Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft MV (MBG-MV) and a strategic investor.

First trade fair participation

Nebula Biocides GmbH was represented as an exhibitor at the MEDICA trade fair in Düsseldorf for the first time and received valuable ideas and contacts that significantly influenced the direction of the start-up.

Completion of Phase 3 trials

The efficacy tests for the Sporosan® concentrate in the categories bactericidal, fungicidal, levurocidal, virucidal, sporicidal and mycobactericidal were successfully completed. Efficacy can be claimed for all pathogen spectra. The test was carried out in the accredited test laboratory Hygiene Nord GmbH.
